The Power of Self-Love

Love Me.jpg

Straight from my vision board that I made 7 years ago.

I FINALLY ARRIVED

Seven years ago, I created a vision board. I made sure to put all the things that were truly important to my heart. At the time, I was in a master’s degree program at Boston University majoring in marketing. I was also writing and recording songs with my friend Mauli B. as well as my family. Everything I put on this board was absolutely the true fearless heart of me. But what it would take for all of it to come together was not others’ belief and love of me, but my own.

THE IG POST

So this morning, August 16th, 2019… my parents’ anniversary (and the whole reason why I’m here on this earth the way I am) I decide to write the following post about this picture:

Self-love is powerful. Without a healthy sense of worth and value from self, life just can't have the same zest that comes with loving who you are. In fact, love is the fuel for will... you need it to plow through the tough times and claim your victory: joy🏅🏅
💜💜💜
I always believed God loved me and my parents... of course. But life completely changed when I developed a true love for this chick named Wendi... and yes, it's spelled with an "i" at the end. 😜😜♥️
💜💜💜
It's not conceited to own your greatness. It's necessary to living in our true God-ordained abundance! You know someone has a healthy self-appreciation because they easily appreciate others too!
💜💜💜
Visible love for self leads to visible love for everyone else. Period, point blank, straight ⬆️

HOW TO DEVELOP SELF-ESTEEM

I never heard a better break down of how to develop self-esteem than what Dr. Mario Martinez shares in this video. Listen to it a few times and take notes because the concepts are deep. I’ll jot down a few of my take aways below.

Tools for Developing Self-esteem

  1. Self-Valuing: this is related to abundance and how worthy you feel you are to have the good things in life. You build self-valuing by keeping commitments to self. Not breaking commitments to help others or put others first. Inherently, you’re teaching your mind and body that you don’t value yourself enough to keep your promises to yourself. #DEEP

  2. Competency: you have to be good at what you do. This builds confidence. Practice makes perfect. Once you feel confident about the things you can do, you can offer your expertise to others; therefore sharing your abundance. Doesn’t that feel good??

  3. Affiliate Love: this is related to how many people you love and that you allow to love you. In a bind, who can you call on?

One of the biggest mind blowing conclusions of this video is this concept: self-esteem has to be in tact or else joy will kill you. Wait! Exsqueeze me! Did I just read that right??

Our ability to enjoy the goodness in life is connected to how highly we value ourselves!

I would love to discuss your takeaways from this concept of how to develop self-esteem and how worthiness is tied to experiencing true joy.

Please drop me a few comments and let’s share.

Always under construction in love 💜,

Wendi

Dr. Mario E. Martinez is a clinical neuropsychologist. In 1998 he developed his theory of Biocognitive Science based on research that demonstrates how thoughts and their biological expression coemerge within a cultural history. Academic science continues to divide mind and body, as well as ignore the influence cultural contexts have on the process of health, illness and aging. For example, cultures that support growing older as a positive development associated with increased wisdom and abilities have higher numbers of centenarians living healthier lives, than cultures that view aging as a process of inevitable deterioration.
